COVID-19 India

The novel Coronavirus (SARS-COV-2) is by far the most dangerous biological virus that has already taken the lives of many, mainly in Europe and the US. As of 21 May 2020, the number of cases of COVID-19 worldwide is approximately 4.97 million with a whopping 327000 deaths already. The major contribution to thee numbers comes from the US, with more than 1.5 million confirmed cases and close to a hundred thousand deaths.

Why India?

On examining the numbers, it might seem that COVID-19 cases are fairly controlled in India considering its population, and the number of deaths is also quite low as compared to some other nations. The number of new cases per day is getting high pretty fast, and its would be very soon to reach two hundred thousand cases here. Currently, the number of confirmed cases stands at a little higher than a hundred thousand, with around 3,500 deaths.
However, there are certain things listed below, which, if not addressed by the government and the people, would affect India really bad.

1. Relaxation of Lockdown:

It is the forth phase of lockdown here in India, but there are very little to no restrictions imposed on the people. Pretty much every shops in the towns are open, and streets are filled with people. It seems everything is being carried out normally and in some places, even without precautions and safety measures. The government doesn't seem to be bothered at all and the pandemic situation is being taken very lightly. The Ministers and the officials offer only one explanation: "Everything cannot remain closed forever, so we must learn to live with the Coronavirus". This is what is extremely dangerous, as most countries, including the US has tried so treat the pandemic situation in a similar way in the beginning and they regret now. Now, with so many cases of COVID-19 across the country, the government has started treating the pandemic this way. This is a really big threat to the country. Complete lockdown for at least 3-4 months or even more had been the only way to control the coronavirus outbreak. With such flaws in administration, "a normal day where one could visit a shopping mall, eat street food and roam with friends", isn't expected soon.

2. Corruption in all Aspects

Here in India, corruption exists everywhere, in some way or the other, especially at the local level. There have been several cases where COVID-19 cases were mishandled by the officials at the local level. Several scams are being run too, by hotels, local taxis, buses, and even the testing centres. In West Bengal, a state in India, there have been cases in which ambulance drivers are illegally operating across districts, to transport goods, people, and charging high amounts of money. They also manage to produce fake COVID-19 negative reports, in which they are being helped in some way by hospitals and test centres. Thus, one can safely say that there are several COVID-19 cases and even deaths(probably) that haven't come to highlight!

3. Goverment permits to carry out pending exams

Students are the most important section of the society. They are the future generation whose careers and health should not be compromised. Carrying out examinations in the present situation(which shall get even worse in a month) would be extremely risky, even with proper measures. Apart from this, a major section of students would also face hassles in travelling during the exam days. During entrance exams, interstate traveling would be required and students may be quarantined in that process, thus, leading to the loss of precious time, and creating hassles for them. There is in fact, no reason to carry out the exams haphazardly amid the pandemic as the new academic session for most universities won't start until the country is COVID-19 free.

4. Irresponsible Citizens

The spread of the Coronavirus mainly depends how people maintain social distancing and take proper precautionary measures in their daily lives. It seems that most people here in India are irresponsible in social aspects. There aren't many who wear masks while roaming outside, nor they use sanitizers or maintain social distancing. Many seem not no care at all. The pandemic situation cannot be controlled if the people aren't conscious, and don't take proper precautions.

Thus, its time to be aware of the fact that the Coronavirus isn't a joke. It can have far reaching consequences if the pandemic scenario is not handled properly, considering how it has affected even the well-developed countries of the world. The way it is being handled here in India would bring us a Doom's Day.
